Youth Minister | Marquez Baptist Church

Build something that lasts

Marquez Baptist Church is hiring a Youth Minister to build a ministry for 6th–12th grade students from the ground up. Salary and housing are provided, and full-time, part-time, or bivocational arrangements are all on the table.

If you would rather plant than maintain, and you want to know every student by name and still be in their corner ten years from now, we want to hear from you.

How to Apply

The opportunity

You won’t inherit a program here; you’ll build one. Youth ministry at MBC has run on volunteer leaders off and on for years, and our church has decided to sacrificially invest in the next generation.

A blank page. Shape the weekly rhythm, discipleship, events, and trips around the students actually in front of you.
A church that’s committed. The congregation is putting salary, housing, and prayer behind this role.
Great kids. Students here want somewhere to belong and someone who will show up for them.
Partners, not competitors. Churches in our town work together on funerals, celebrations, and school events. You’ll have room to build alongside other congregations, not against them.

Who we’re looking for

We want a disciple-maker who is as strong on follow-through as on first impressions.

You walk toward the kid standing alone. You learn names fast and make newcomers feel expected, not just welcomed.
You notice who’s on the edge. You see the student drifting outside the group before it becomes a problem.
You invest in years, not weeks. You see potential in the student others wrote off, and you stay in their corner after graduation.
Your convictions hold under pressure. You can explain what you believe plainly, to a 6th grader and to a skeptical senior.
You stay positive on the slow nights. When six students show up instead of forty, you pour into the six.
You adapt. The lesson derails, a hard conversation shows up unplanned, and you handle both with grace.
You treat logistics as care. Headcounts, permission slips, and parent communication get done, and parents trust you because of it.
You want to put down roots. This role rewards someone who stays.

What you’ll do

Build and lead a weekly youth gathering for 6th–12th grade
Teach Bible-centered lessons that reach both middle schoolers and high schoolers
Disciple students one-on-one and in small groups, and develop student leaders
Show up where students are: games, school events, and community activities
Recruit, screen, train, and lead adult volunteers
Partner with parents and keep them informed
Plan events, camps, retreats, and mission trips, including transportation, permissions, and budget
Coordinate with youth efforts at other churches in the area
Follow and champion the church’s child-protection policy
Serve on church staff under the pastor’s leadership

Qualifications

We weigh calling, character, and fit over credentials.

A born-again follower of Jesus with a clear testimony and a growing walk
Affirms the Baptist Faith and Message 2000 and fits a conservative, SBTC-affiliated church
High school diploma required; ministry training or a degree is welcome but not required
0–5 years of experience; work with teens in ministry, schools, coaching, or camps counts
Passes a criminal background check and sex-offender registry search, renewed annually, and signs the church’s child-protection policy
Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record

Life in Marquez

Marquez is a small Texas town where people know each other and show up when someone needs help.

Community. Neighbors are welcoming, and churches work together rather than compete.
Schools. Students attend a good school district.
Peace and quiet. Open land, big skies, low crime, and little traffic. There is real room to slow down.
Central location. About an hour to Bryan–College Station, Waco, and Huntsville, and about two hours to Houston, Dallas–Fort Worth, and Austin. Texas A&M, Baylor, and Sam Houston State are all within reach.

The honest picture

We’d rather you know now than find out after the move. Most of us think the trade-off is worth it.

It’s the country. Small grocery stores and a doctor’s office are about 20 minutes away; larger stores, hospitals, and dental care are about an hour.
Fewer options for fun. Restaurants and entertainment are limited, and social life often centers on school and kids’ activities.
Friendships run deep. Many relationships here go back generations, so connecting takes intention, for you and for new students.
A wide area. Students live spread out, and many depend on parents for rides.
A busy calendar. Sports seasons and summer pull students in many directions, and the ministry has to work with that rhythm.

Compensation and housing

Salary and housing are provided, so relocating doesn’t mean buying or renting a home.

Schedule: full-time, part-time, or bivocational
